Colossus of Rhodes
The island is most famous for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The giant sculpture of sun god Helios guarded the island – with the height of approximately 33 metres, it stood as tall as the Statue of Liberty! -
Dama-dama deer
The Dama-dama – or fallow deer – is one of the symbols of Rhodes. The unique variety of this protected species can be only found on this island, living in the characteristic pine and cypress forests.

Valley of Butterflies
In the northern part of the island lies a place called Petaloúdes – The Valley of the Butterflies. This peaceful, unique forest is home to vast amounts of colourful butterflies that travel there, drawn by the scent of oriental sweetgum trees.
